Sunday, May 31, 2015

Capt. Perdue began his career w/ the SFD on 29 April 1973, being assigned to "C" Shift (he was a volunteer w/ the Westside VFD for 7 years prior) - His chief at the time of his hiring was Fred Williams - the Deputy Chief was Bill Taylor - his crew was Assistant Chief Bill Dykes, Captain George Sullivan, and firefighters Winston Mason and Shell Brinson - the ambulance crew was Walt Miller and Rudy Burr

Joe was promoted to the rank of captain in 1988, and retired from the department on 30 September 2000, serving faithfully for more than 27 years - he has many fond memories of the department and relayed stories about the Civic Center, Benjamin's, and Community Builders fires

Capt. Perdue was quick to say the two best firefighters he ever worked with were Doug Brown and Bunky Adams

His love for the job is apparent, and he is proud to say his greatest endeavors were "Helping people and making a difference in their lives."

Thanks for the company today sir, and please don't hesitate to come see us again soon
