Garage Fire in West Salisbury
Tuesday, April 1, 2014

Around 05:30 hours crews from Salisbury were clearing a building fire assignment on N Salisbury Boulevard when Wicomico Central alerted Stations 16, 2 and 5 (Hebron) for the "working garage fire" in the area of Ocean Gateway and Queen Avenue.  Assistant Chief 1 (Scott) arrived on scene minutes later to find fire showing from a detached, two bay garage with exposure to a residence in the 28500 block of Ocean Gateway and established command.  Due to the fire load and threat to nearby exposures, Engine Tanker 1-1 was added to the assignment by command. Engine 16 arrived on scene shortly after and deployed the front bumper line to extinguish the fire.  Rescue 16 arrived behind the Engine and deployed a second handline to assist with extinguishment and keep the exposure(s) in check.  Engine Tanker 1-1 assisted with overhaul and hitting hot spots upon its arrival.  Engine Tanker 5 had the water supply for suppression crews.  Crews operated on scene for just under an hour and a half until returning to service.  The cause of the fire is still under investigation by Maryland State Fire Marshal.
