Commercial Building Fire - Fratellis Restaurant
Wednesday, February 19, 2014

Just before 0200 AM on 2/19, stations 16, 1, and 3 were alerted for a structure fire at 1309 S Salisbury Blvd. Central advised they were taking multiple calls reporting a working fire. Assistant Chief 1 arrived with smoke showing from the roof and side C of a one story masonry restaurant establishing the command. Engine 16-1 arrived shortly after laying 3 and 5 inch lines from the hydrant. Tower 16 arrived and positioned on the alpha bravo corner. Tower 16 forced entry on the D side utilizing a K-tool and quickly located the fire in the rear kitchen. Engine 16-1’s crew stretched a 2 ½ in line through the D side making a quick push on the fire. Paramedic 16’s crew forced entry on the C side utilizing a K-12 saw. Truck 1 and Engine 301 were assigned to roof operations and cut a ventilation hole above the fire. Due to limited resources, Command requested Station 2 and a second alarm to be dispatched to the scene. Engine 2 arrived and assisted Engine 16-1 in checking for extension and overhaul.  Tanker 305 also on scene, staged on side Alpha. Engine 2 and Rescue 16 were released from the scene to respond to a second working fire on Liberty Street. Engine 1 secured a secondary water source and assisted Truck 1. Engine/Tanker 1503 stood by on scene. Crews remained on the scene for two hours.
